Farewell to Nick Egloff
Monday July 24: It all started off with a normal, typical, work week, until one of our IT Director’s sent out an email with the ominous subject of a loss of a co-worker. The company i work for is a decent size company, with a little over 1000 employees, so usually these notices are for someone I don’t know well, or someone who has been struggling with a long illness (whom I also barely know). But not this time. Our network manager, Nick Egloff, died, and this was someone I knew pretty well. I had to read the message several times, because it just didn’t seem possible… Only a few hours ago he was messaging people on Facebook and playing Farmville… But now a message before me informs me that he is now gone. I’ve worked with Nick on the periphery for the last few years, because his work ultimately effected my area, since I work on the Web Operations team. I ran into him many times during maintenance weekends when I had to come into the office to perform my system tests. He was still up from the evening, waiting for status’s from the other areas of the company to report if the network maintenance was successful. He was tired, but was never rude or too tired to talk. He was a great person I wish to have gotten to know more., but alas, that opportunity is no longer possible. Rest in Peace Nick. I will miss all the goofy jokes, witty commentary, and those stupid emoticons he sent me in the company’s chat system.
